Lockable Outlet Tap for Vehicle Water Tanks

The Water Tank Locking Tap is a brass outlet fitting for vehicle-mounted water tanks and jerry can conversions. The tap uses a 3/4 inch BSP male thread that seats into standard tank bulkheads. A keyed handle locks the valve in the closed position to stop unauthorised draw-off.

The body is machined from brass with a chrome finish. Brass resists corrosion in stored water and holds up to repeated open and close cycles. The valve uses a ceramic disc cartridge that seats firmly without dripping. A 90-degree quarter-turn handle moves from full flow to shut-off with one hand.

The outlet spout measures 16 mm outside diameter and delivers a steady flow for filling bottles and washing gear. A barbed spout accepts a 12 mm hose where a longer reach is needed. The locking head uses a standard cam lock key, and two keys ship in the pack. The tap weighs about 280 g and projects 85 mm from the tank wall.

Installation requires a 22 mm hole in the tank wall and a sealing washer on each side of the bulkhead. Tighten the back nut by hand and finish with a quarter turn on a spanner. Do not over-torque the brass thread into a plastic tank boss. Check the seal after the first fill and re-tighten if a weep appears.

Drain the tank and open the tap fully before winter storage. Mineral scale from hard water can clog the ceramic cartridge over time. Flush the tap with clean water and a mild descaler once a year. Lubricate the handle spindle with a food-grade silicone grease if it stiffens.

The locking head deters casual use at campsites and public fill points. Keep the spare key off the vehicle in case the primary key is lost. The brass body does not rust, so the tap suits coastal and humid environments. The quarter-turn action makes it easy to use with wet or gloved hands.
