Description
Long-Distance Optical HDMI Link
The Ugreen HD178 Fiber Cable carries HDMI 2.0 signals across 25 metres as modulated light instead of copper current. It moves 4K video at 60Hz with 18Gbps of aggregate bandwidth. Full HDCP 2.2 handshaking stays intact, so protected studio and streaming content passes without downscaling.
The active optical assembly combines four 10-gigabit fiber strands with seven tinned copper conductors. Connectors house the electro-optical conversion electronics, and the run is directional: the Source plug feeds the player, the Display plug feeds the panel. Supported timings include 3840×2160 at 60Hz, 2560×1440 at 144Hz, and 1080p at 240Hz.
Aluminum alloy shells surround a die-cast zinc alloy inner shield, which blocks electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference along equipment-heavy routes. The assembly draws power from the HDMI +5V rail and needs no external adapter. Its 4.2mm jacket and 32AWG construction suit conduit and ceiling pulls between 0°C and 45°C.
Key Features
Active Optical Conversion
Electro-optical transceivers in each connector regenerate the TMDS signal, so attenuation across 25 metres stays flat instead of degrading like copper.HDMI 2.0 Bandwidth Ceiling
The link transports the full 18Gbps HDMI 2.0 payload, including HDR10 metadata and 48-bit colour depth, to a compatible display.Directional End Labelling
- Source/Input plug terminates at the player, switcher, or PC
- Display/Output plug terminates at the projector, panel, or TV
- Reversed installation does not pass signal
Dual-Layer Shielding
- Die-cast zinc alloy inner shell suppresses EMI
- Aluminum alloy outer housing resists abrasion and dissipates heat
- Gold-plated contacts limit oxidation at the termination points

Why Choose Ugreen
Optical transport removes the 10-metre copper ceiling that forces 4K installations down to 1080p.
Hybrid fiber and tinned copper cores keep the run flexible enough for conduit bends.
Bus-powered electronics eliminate a separate power outlet at the display end.
Published 18Gbps and HDCP 2.2 ratings let procurement verify compatibility before installation.

Ran this from the AV rack to a projector across a large hall and the picture is perfect. Fiber makes all the difference at this length. Sturdy build.
Hellen Mwende (verified owner) –
Fiber optic at 25 metres is exactly what I needed for a conference room where the display is far from the source. No signal degradation at all, the 4K picture is crisp and stable. The aluminum shell connectors feel premium and lock in firmly. Unlike copper cables over this distance, there’s no flicker or handshake issues. Very impressed.
Patrick Mbugua (verified owner) –
Good quality fiber HDMI. Picture is clear across the full length and it handles 4K without strain. Slightly delicate compared to copper so handle it with care when pulling through walls, but that’s the nature of fiber. Works well.
Stephen Ochieng (verified owner) –
Long run, zero signal loss. Connected my media player to a TV across the room and it works perfectly at 4K. The cable is thin for its length, which made routing it along the wall easy. Great product.

Installed this in a lecture hall connecting the podium to the screen at the front. The 25m run is flawless and the 4K output is sharp even across that distance. One thing to keep in mind is that fiber cables are directional, so you must connect the correct end to the source — worth reading the label before installation. Otherwise excellent quality.
Lydia Anyango (verified owner) –
The fiber build keeps the signal strong over the long distance and the picture stays sharp at 4K. I appreciate how slim the cable is compared to thick copper HDMI runs. Only caution is the directional connectors, so double-check orientation during setup. Solid for a permanent install.

Bought for our church to connect the laptop to the projector mounted far back. No more fuzzy picture or dropped signal during service. The aluminum connectors are a nice touch. Reliable.
