Description
Outdoor Pan/Tilt Wi-Fi Camera Overview
The TP-Link C500 outdoor camera is a 1080p pan/tilt unit built for continuous indoor and perimeter surveillance. It pans 340° mechanically for 360° coverage and tilts 90° for a 131° vertical view. A 1/3″ progressive-scan CMOS sensor feeds a 3.89 mm F2.0 lens with an 85.5° diagonal field of view.
An 850 nm IR LED delivers monochrome night vision to 30 m, and the integrated spotlight enables colour night vision at the same distance. Video encodes in H.264 at up to 15 fps and streams to the Tapo app over 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. RTSP and ONVIF support allow integration with third-party recorders.
The housing carries an IP65 rating against dust and water jets. The camera operates from -30 °C to 60 °C and draws power from a 12 V DC 1 A adapter. Recording lands on a microSD card up to 512 GB or on a Tapo Care cloud subscription. Mounting hardware covers wall, ceiling and pole installation.

Why Choose the Tapo C500
The PTZ Wi-Fi camera covers a full 360° arc from a single wall or eave mount, which reduces hardware count per site.
On-device person detection keeps analytics local, so alerts do not depend on a cloud subscription.
The IP65 outdoor camera tolerates water jets and dust, and it runs across a -30 °C to 60 °C ambient range.
ONVIF and RTSP output let engineers pull the 1080p security camera stream into an existing VMS or NVR.

Installed one at home in Rongai and another at my mother’s place in Thika. Same app manages both, which is convenient. The 360° horizontal sweep covers the entire compound. Setup was straightforward though I had to switch the phone to the 2.4GHz band during pairing. Would recommend.

The person detection filter cuts down on false alerts from cats and passing cars. Cloud and microSD recording both work, though you need a subscription for the cloud side. For the price the pan range and weatherproofing are hard to beat.

Delivery to Eastleigh was quick and the camera came well packaged. Pan and tilt are smooth and quiet. Happy with the purchase.

I run a small hardware shop in Ruiru and needed something to watch the yard at night. The 850nm IR gives decent range and the 1080p feed over Wi-Fi 2.4GHz has been stable. Colour night vision needs some light but that is expected. The app recordings to microSD saved me on a stock discrepancy last month. Worth it.

Solid build. The IP65 rating held up through the long rains in Karen without any fogging inside the lens. Good buy.

Bought two for the shop in Ngara. The motion tracking follows people as they walk past the entrance, and the two-way audio lets me talk to the delivery guy without stepping out. Only issue is the siren is not as loud as I expected, but the alerts work fine.

Mounted this outside my gate in Kilimani and the 360° pan coverage means I can sweep the whole driveway from one unit. Night vision is clear enough to read a number plate at about eight metres. Setup on the Tapo app took under ten minutes.
