Description
DEET-Based Wipe-On Repellent for Horses
The Tabard Equine Lotion is a wipe-on insect repellent formulated for horses and supplied in a 5 kg container. It controls house flies, stable flies and mosquitoes on the coat. The product also kills ticks when applied as a spot treatment or over the full body.
The active ingredient is diethyltoluamide at 195 mg/g, equivalent to 19.5% w/w DEET. DEET remains the reference standard for repellent protection against biting insects. The lotion carries DAFF stock remedy registration granted in 2016, and the manufacturer positions it for equine use rather than human application. The formulation includes emulsifiers at 6.15% m/m and preservatives at 0.30% m/m. The water-based carrier makes the lotion miscible and easy to wipe across the coat.
Apply the lotion directly to the coat and work it into the hair. Focus on the face, neck, shoulders, belly and legs, which are the areas flies target first. Avoid the eyes and mouth. Horses can be worked or ridden immediately after application, so the product fits a normal yard routine without a withdrawal period.
Reapply after washing or heavy sweating, and increase frequency during peak fly season. A 5 kg container suits yards with several horses or a full competition season. Store the container closed below 25°C, out of direct sunlight and away from feed and water troughs. Keep it out of reach of children and animals.
Combine the lotion with fly masks, fly sheets and stable hygiene for full protection. The lotion handles exposed areas that sheets cannot cover, such as the face and lower legs. Do not apply to broken skin or open wounds. Read the label directions and warnings before each use.
