The Generic USB cable 5M is a passive USB 2.0 assembly that carries data between a host port and a peripheral across a five-metre span. It terminates in USB-A male plugs at both ends and uses 28/24 AWG tinned copper conductors. The PVC jacket measures 4.5 mm in diameter and suits cable trays and desk runs.

The cable supports the USB 2.0 high-speed ceiling of 480 Mbps and falls back to 12 Mbps and 1.5 Mbps on lower-speed devices. Aluminium foil and braided shielding wrap the data pair to limit EMI ingress. Gold-plated contacts resist corrosion across repeated mating cycles.

At five metres the assembly sits within the USB 2.0 passive limit, so bus-powered peripherals still receive adequate voltage. Applications include printers, scanners, external drives, card readers and USB hubs. The lead is not a charging cable for high-current fast-charge protocols. It carries standard 5 V bus power only.
