Description
Passive USB 2.0 Extension for Host and Device Separation
The USB extension cable 5m moves a USB 2.0 Type-A port up to five metres from the host. It carries 480 Mbps high-speed data and 5V bus power over one run. Moulded male and female connectors seat in standard ports without adapters.
Tinned copper conductors use 24 AWG on the power pair and 28 AWG on the data pair. Aluminium-mylar foil with a drain wire shields the twisted pair from induced noise. The PVC jacket measures about 4.8 mm and tolerates a 48 mm bend radius.
Five metres is the maximum passive run the USB 2.0 specification permits for high-speed links. Bus-powered devices draw up to 500 mA across the length, and voltage drop climbs with current. Route the cable clear of mains wiring, and add a powered hub for current-hungry peripherals.
