Stretchable Load Straps for Roof Rack Cargo

The Front Runner Stratchits are a pair of elastic tie-down straps that combine ratchet tension with bungee stretch. They secure cargo to roof racks, trailers and load beds without the bulk of a full ratchet strap. The set ships as two matched straps with stainless steel carabiners.

Each strap adjusts from 560 mm to 1524 mm between the carabiner hook ends. The latex bungee core adds up to 203 mm of length at full stretch, which absorbs load settling on rough roads. A working load rating of 100 kg per strap covers recovery boards, chairs, firewood and storage cases.

Construction uses polyester webbing around a latex bungee core. The 7 mm stainless steel carabiners resist corrosion in coastal and winter conditions. A Velcro tab stows excess strap length, which keeps the rack tidy and stops loose tails from flapping at speed. Each strap weighs 230 g and the pair weighs 460 g.

Attachment is simple. Hook the carabiner to a tie-down ring, eye nut or rack slat. Loop the strap around a rail, bumper or tire carrier and fasten it back to itself. The integrated ratchet lets a user cinch the load by hand without tools. Do not overtighten; hand leverage is enough to hold cargo without crushing surfboards or soft cases.

Check the straps after the first 10 miles of driving and every 50 miles after that. Loads settle and the elastic tension changes. Remove the straps from direct sun and weather when not in use to extend service life. Inspect the webbing for cuts and the carabiners for bent gates. Never use the straps to support human weight.
