Description
Ferrocerium Spark Tool for Camp and Braai
The fire starter is a ferrocerium rod tool that throws sparks at around 3,000°C to ignite tinder in wet or windy conditions. A hardened steel striker scrapes the rod, and a braided lanyard keeps the parts together. The compact body fits a pocket or a survival kit pouch.
The rod measures 8 mm in diameter and 75 mm long, giving roughly 12,000 strikes across its service life. The striker attaches to the lanyard and doubles as a bottle opener. A moulded handle covers the lower rod section, which improves grip with cold or wet hands. The assembly weighs about 45 g.
Use the flat edge of the striker to shave a small pile of magnesium from the rod before striking. Then draw the striker firmly down the rod at a shallow angle to send sparks into the tinder. The tool works at altitude and in rain, because the spark does not depend on fuel or batteries. Dry the rod after use and store it away from corrosive chemicals.
Key Features
Ferrocerium Rod
The 8 mm rod produces sparks near 3,000°C even when the surface is damp.Hardened Steel Striker
- Flat scraping edge shaves magnesium from the rod
- Integrated bottle opener on the spine
- Lanyard hole keeps the striker attached
Moulded Handle
The polymer grip covers the lower rod and improves control with wet or cold hands.Braided Lanyard
The nylon cord ties the rod and striker together and clips to a pack loop.All-Weather Operation
The spark depends on friction rather than fuel, so rain and altitude do not stop ignition.Compact Form
The 104 mm overall length and 45 g weight suit pocket carry or a small pouch.Long Strike Life
The rod carries a service rating of roughly 12,000 strikes.

Why Choose This Spark Tool
The ferrocerium rod lights tinder without lighter fluid, matches or batteries.
A 12,000-strike rating covers years of weekend braais and camping trips.
The striker and bottle opener share one body, which trims the kit list.
The moulded handle keeps a firm grip when hands are cold or wet.
A braided lanyard prevents losing the striker in grass or sand.
The 45 g weight adds almost nothing to a pack or glovebox.
