Outdoor Loose Tube Multimode Cable

The 8 core OM3 fiber cable is a loose tube outdoor construction that carries eight multimode fibers in a single central tube. It supports 10GBASE-SR to 300 m and 1000BASE-SX to 900 m. The cable sells per meter, so installers order the exact run length for a backbone or campus link.

Each fiber uses a 50 µm core and 125 µm cladding, with a 250 µm acrylate coating. The OM3 grade delivers at least 2000 MHz·km effective modal bandwidth at 850 nm. Maximum attenuation sits at 3.0 dB/km at 850 nm and 1.0 dB/km at 1300 nm. TIA-598-D color coding identifies the eight fibers as blue, orange, green, brown, gray, white, red and black.

The central loose tube measures 3.5 mm and carries thixotropic jelly for water blocking. Aramid yarns provide tensile strength, and the black polyethylene outer jacket brings the cable to 8.0 mm nominal diameter. The jacket resists UV exposure for aerial and duct routes. Crush resistance reaches 220 N/cm, and the cable weighs approximately 49 kg/km.

Minimum bend radius is 15x outer diameter during installation and 10x outer diameter in operation. Maximum tensile load is 2670 N during pulls and 800 N once installed. Operating temperature spans -40 °C to +70 °C, with installation rated from -30 °C to +60 °C. The construction supports direct burial in prepared trenches, duct installation and lashed aerial spans.
