Description

MC100CM Fiber Converter

The TP-Link MC100CM Media Converter functions as a signal translator between 100BASE-FX multi-mode fiber and 10/100Base-TX copper media. It adheres strictly to IEEE 802.3u and IEEE 802.3 standards to ensure seamless hardware integration. This device allows network administrators to extend Ethernet segments beyond the 100-meter copper limit. It utilizes an SC-type connector for the optical interface. The hardware operates at a 1310nm wavelength to maintain signal integrity over long distances. It supports a maximum transmission range of 2 kilometers over multi-mode fiber cabling. This unit provides a reliable solution for connecting remote workstations or segments to a central network hub.

Internal circuitry supports full-wire speed forwarding rates to minimize latency during data transit. The copper port features auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX capabilities. These functions eliminate the requirement for crossover cables when connecting to switches or routers. The optical port includes a manual switch to toggle between Half-Duplex and Full-Duplex transfer modes. This flexibility ensures compatibility with various legacy networking environments. The device operates effectively as a standalone unit or within a standard 14-slot rackmount chassis. Its metal housing facilitates efficient heat dissipation for continuous 24/7 operation.

Key Features

  • Link Fault Passthrough (LFP)
This mechanism allows the device to monitor both fiber and copper ports for link failures simultaneously.

  • Far End Fault (FEF)
The FEF function enables the converter to signal link loss across the optical connection to remote management equipment.

  • Transmission Specifications

    • Supports 1310nm wavelength for multi-mode fiber
    • Extends network reach up to 2km distance
    • Maintains data throughput at 100Mbps speeds
  • Physical Interface Versatility
The RJ45 port automatically detects 10Mbps or 100Mbps speeds and adjusts duplex settings accordingly.

Diagnostic LEDs on the front panel provide real-time status updates for power, link activity, and speed. These indicators assist technicians in rapid troubleshooting without specialized testing equipment. The external power adapter provides a stable 5V/0.6A supply to the internal components. Consequently, the device maintains a low power consumption profile during peak traffic loads. Additionally, the compact form factor allows for deployment in tight telecommunications enclosures or desktop environments. The unit meets FCC and CE regulatory requirements for electromagnetic interference and safety.

  1. Josphat Maina (verified owner)

This MC100CM is a solid unit. We used it to link two blocks in our office compound in Westlands via fiber and the connection hasn’t dropped even once. For the price, you really can’t complain. Kitu safi.

  2. Brenda Wanjiku (verified owner)

Good quality and very compact. Received it in Thika the next day after ordering. It’s working well with our multi-mode fiber patch cords for the CCTV setup.

  3. Kevin Omolo (verified owner)

Works as expected. Just make sure your cabling is multi-mode SC because it won’t work with single-mode. It’s a bit of an older standard being Fast Ethernet (100Mbps), but it is extremely stable for extending the network to our warehouse wing. No configuration needed, just plug and play.

  4. Mercy Adhiambo (verified owner)

Fair price and very fast delivery to Nairobi CBD. The device is genuine TP-Link.

  5. David Kiprop (verified owner)

It does the job well but note it’s only 100Mbps. I realized later I should have gone for the Gigabit version for my specific server needs, but for basic office internet distribution, this MC100CM is very reliable. Build quality is quite sturdy for such a small box.

  6. Brenda Akoth (verified owner)

Installed this in our office in Westlands to bridge the fiber link between two floors. It’s been running for over a month now without needing a restart. Very reliable for the price and the size is quite compact so it doesn’t take up much space in the cabinet.

  7. Kelvin Otieno (verified owner)

The build quality is solid metal, not those cheap plastics you see sometimes. Using it for a 100Mbps link and it handles the traffic well. Good value for money for any small network setup.

  8. Josphat Mwangi (verified owner)

Simple and works as advertised. Good price for the SC multi-mode setup if you are on a budget.

  9. Faith Mutua (verified owner)

It works fine but just remember this is Fast Ethernet (100Mbps), not Gigabit. I realized later I needed more speed for my specific server setup, but for basic office internet extensions, it’s okay and stable.

  10. Samuel Njuguna (verified owner)

Ordered these for a client project in the CBD. Delivery was quick and the units are doing the job perfectly. Just a tip for others: make sure you have the right SC multi-mode patch cords because it definitely won’t work with single-mode fiber. Otherwise, it’s a great buy.

  11. Evans Kiprop (verified owner)

Plug and play kabisa. No configuration needed. Just connected the fiber and the ethernet cable and it picked up the signal immediately. Very happy with the purchase.
