Compact UniFi OS Console

The UniFi Cloud Gateway Max (UCG-Max) is a compact UniFi OS appliance that runs Network (and other UniFi applications the hardware allows) without a 1RU Dream Machine. It is the gateway and controller for a small office or retail site. It is not UCG-Ultra and not UDM-Pro-Max. Confirm whether the unit you receive includes SSD storage if you plan to run Protect on-box; some kits differ. WAN/LAN port speeds follow Ubiquiti’s UCG-Max datasheet (multi-gig on designated ports).

Additionally, a desktop gateway reduces rack CAPEX for sites with a handful of APs. Therefore UCG-Max is the usual step up from Ultra when you need more CPU or storage headroom. However, IDS/IPS throughput is lower than a Pro Max 1RU. Consequently, size threat management against the WAN circuit, not against marketing peak routing numbers. Power is typically USB-C or a barrel PSU as packed—use the supplied adapter.

Additionally, set a strong owner account and restrict remote access. Therefore do not expose the management UI to the whole internet. However, if you need many camera-days of Protect, prefer UNVR-Pro or a Pro Max with HDDs. Consequently, treat UCG-Max as a network console first. Keep a USB backup of the UniFi settings after go-live.
