Portable SATA Drive Housing

The USB 2.5 External Case converts a bare 2.5-inch SATA drive into a bus-powered portable unit. It accepts 7 mm and 9.5 mm drive heights. A slide-off lid gives tool-free access to the SATA connector. The ABS shell measures 128 x 78 x 14 mm and weighs 48 g empty.

A USB 3.0 Micro-B port links the housing to the host at 5 Gbps. The bridge board supports UASP and trims command overhead on Windows 8 and later, macOS and Linux. It falls back to BOT for older systems. The SATA interface runs at 6 Gbps and negotiates SATA I, II and III drives automatically.

Bus power comes from the host port at 5 V and up to 900 mA. No external adapter is needed for most 2.5-inch drives. A blue LED shows link and activity. The caddy supports drives up to 4 TB and ships with a 50 cm USB 3.0 cable. Vent slots sit on both sides to move heat away from the bridge board.
