8P8C Modular Plug for Cat5 Terminations

The RJ45 CAT 5 connector is an 8-position, 8-contact modular plug for terminating Cat5 and Cat5e twisted pair cable. Contacts carry 50 microns of gold plating over nickel for low contact resistance and oxidation resistance. The clear polycarbonate body meets UL94 V-0 flame rating.

Three-prong contacts straddle each conductor to hold strand alignment after crimping. The plug accepts 24 to 26 AWG solid or stranded wire, with a maximum conductor insulation diameter of 1.016 mm. Maximum cable jacket diameter is 6.09 mm for the standard boot entry. Wiring follows T568A or T568B pinouts.

Electrical performance supports 1000BASE-T links on Cat5e cable. Initial contact resistance stays at or below 20 mΩ, and insulation resistance reaches 500 MΩ or better. Insertion loss measures 0.4 dB maximum, and return loss holds at 20 dB minimum. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 85°C for indoor and sheltered outdoor runs.

Termination needs a standard 8P8C crimp tool and a cable stripper. Technicians strip the jacket, order the pairs, flush-cut the conductors and seat the plug before crimping. Each plug holds rated insertion life through repeated patching in patch panels and outlet boxes.
