Panel-Mount Power Outlet for 12V Systems

The 12V DC female socket provides a panel-mount power outlet for vehicle, marine and enclosure wiring. It accepts a standard 12V accessory plug and carries up to 10A at 12V DC. The metal shell and plastic insulator isolate the centre contact from the outer body.

The socket fits a 26 mm mounting hole and secures with a locking nut behind the panel. Two solder or spade terminals connect the centre pin to positive and the shell to ground. A protective cap covers the opening when no plug is inserted.

Rated voltage covers 12V DC systems, and the socket tolerates up to 24V DC in light-duty use. Current rating depends on the mated plug and wiring gauge. Use 16 AWG wire for runs up to 2 m at 10A, and thicker cable for longer runs. Crimp terminals firmly and tug-test each connection before energising the circuit.

Bench tests should include a load test at half the rated current for 30 minutes. Measure the voltage drop across the socket and terminals. A drop above 0.5V indicates poor contact or undersized wiring. Re-terminate or replace the socket if the drop persists.
