Description

Ten-Port USB-C Expansion Dock

The UGREEN CM498 docking station converts a single USB-C port into ten working interfaces for laptops, tablets and desktop replacement setups. It combines three USB-A 3.0 ports, HDMI, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, SD and TF card slots, a 3.5 mm audio jack and a 100W PD input.

Video runs through HDMI at up to 4K at 30Hz, 2560×1440 at 60Hz or 1080p at 120Hz, and through VGA at 1080p at 60Hz. Both outputs operate at the same time, so the host mirrors or extends across a modern panel and a legacy projector. The three USB 3.0 ports move data at 5Gbps and stay backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 peripherals.

The RJ45 port auto-negotiates 10/100/1000Mbps. The aluminium body measures 140 x 44 x 16 mm and the captive cable spans 15 cm. The unit draws power from the host, and the PD port passes up to 100W to charge the connected laptop while peripherals remain active.

Key Features

  • Ten Functional Ports
One USB-C male connector feeds three USB-A 3.0 ports, one HDMI port, one VGA port, one RJ45 socket, SD and TF slots, a 3.5 mm audio output and a USB-C PD input.

  • Simultaneous Video Output

    • HDMI supports 3840×2160 at 30Hz, 2560×1440 at 60Hz and 1920×1080 at 120Hz.
    • VGA supports 1920×1080 at 60Hz for projectors and older monitors.
    • Mirrored and extended desktop modes work with both displays connected.
  • USB 3.0 Data Path
Three Type-A ports deliver 5Gbps signalling with a 2A shared output budget across the group.

  • Gigabit Wired Networking
The AX88179A controller handles 10/100/1000Mbps auto-negotiation for stable wired access in office and lab environments.

  • Dual Card Readers

    • SD and TF slots read and write at the same time.
    • Sequential read throughput reaches roughly 90 to 104MB/s through the GL3224 controller.
  • 100W Power Delivery Passthrough
The PD 3.0 input accepts up to 100W from a USB-C charger and forwards power to the host while the hub operates.

  • Controller Set and Chassis
    The board pairs VL102, VL815, GL3510, ITE6564, GL3224, AX88179A and CS4344 silicon inside a machined aluminium shell.

  1. Peter Mwangi (verified owner) –

The Gigabit Ethernet port alone makes this worth it. Wi-Fi at the office is unreliable, so I plug in the LAN cable and get a stable connection all day. HDMI to my monitor and the three USB-A ports for keyboard, mouse and flash drive all work without any fuss.

  2. Grace Wanjiru (verified owner) –

Bought it mainly for the Ethernet and HDMI. Both work exactly as expected. The extra USB ports are a welcome addition for my external drive.

  3. Faith Njoki (verified owner) –

Ten ports in one small unit is genuinely useful. I run monitor, wired network, headset and phone charging off it simultaneously and nothing drops.

  4. Lydia Achieng (verified owner) –

Does the job. VGA output still works on our older projector, which was the main reason I picked it.

  5. Brian Otieno (verified owner) –

Good hub overall. HDMI output is crisp at 4K. It does get warm after long sessions, but that’s normal for these. Would have liked a slightly longer host cable for desk flexibility. Still a solid buy for the connectivity it offers.

  6. Samuel Karanja (verified owner) –

I’ve been using this dock for a few weeks now in a shared office setup where I move between desks. The 100W PD passthrough keeps my laptop topped up while the HDMI drives a second screen, and the SD/TF slots are handy for pulling photos off my camera. Build is solid aluminium, no flex. The AUX jack is a small bonus I didn’t expect to use but do for calls. Delivery was quick and packaging was neat.

  7. Kevin Omondi (verified owner) –

The VGA port is a lifesaver for older projectors in meeting rooms, and switching between HDMI and VGA is straightforward. I connect my laptop, projector, network cable and headset all through this one unit during presentations. No driver issues on Windows. One thing to note: it’s a fairly compact body, so if you have thick cables the ports can feel a bit crowded. Otherwise it performs reliably and the aluminium finish looks smart.

  8. Mercy Chebet (verified owner) –

Decent all-rounder. Everything I needed — network, display, audio and card reader — in one place. Happy with it.
