Protect NVR Pro 2U

The Ubiquiti UNVR-Pro is a 2U UniFi Protect network video recorder with seven hot-swap HDD bays. It is the larger sibling of the 4-bay UNVR and is meant for sites that outgrow a Dream Machine’s internal disks. Dual Ethernet (1G RJ45 plus 10G SFP+) carries camera streams without saturating a single gigabit uplink. UniFi Protect runs on UniFi OS on this appliance. Camera licenses follow Ubiquiti’s Protect model; the NVR itself is the recording host.

Additionally, RAID-style redundancy depends on the Protect storage configuration and the drives you install. Therefore use NAS-rated HDDs from Ubiquiti’s compatibility notes. However, 10G is only useful if the camera VLAN and core can feed it. Consequently, uplink the SFP+ port to a 10G switch when dozens of 4K streams are in play.

Why Choose This NVR

• Seven bays scale retention beyond a 4-bay UNVR.

Additionally, calculate days of retention from bitrate × cameras × hours. Therefore do not fill bays with desktop disks that lack TLER. However, the NVR still needs a UniFi gateway or Cloud Key if you are not using a UDM. Consequently, place it on the camera VLAN with a dedicated IP. Adopt it in Protect before adding cameras.
