Description

Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Router for Multi-Gigabit Fibre

The TP-Link Archer BE230 distributes a 2.5 Gbps WAN link across four external antennas and five Ethernet ports. It targets homes and small offices that are moving to Wi-Fi 7 clients without rebuilding the access layer. A quad-core processor handles routing, NAT and wireless scheduling on the same board.

The 5 GHz radio reaches 2882 Mbps and the 2.4 GHz radio reaches 688 Mbps under 802.11be, giving a combined BE3600 rating. Multi-Link Operation aggregates both bands for a single client, and 4K-QAM carries 120% more data per symbol than 1024-QAM. Four streams plus 2×2 MU-MIMO serve several devices at once.

Wired capacity covers one 2.5 Gbps WAN port, one 2.5 Gbps LAN port and three Gigabit LAN ports. A USB 3.0 port supports FTP, media and Samba shares from NTFS, exFAT, HFS+ or FAT32 drives. The fanless chassis runs from a 12 V DC adapter and suits shelf or cupboard placement.

Key Features

  • BE3600 Dual-Band Radios
The 802.11be chipset delivers 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with backward compatibility to older client generations.

  • Multi-Link Operation and 4K-QAM

    • MLO bonds 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz links for one client to cut latency
    • 4K-QAM raises throughput per symbol by 20% over 1024-QAM
    • Multi-RU scheduling allocates leftover subcarriers to active traffic
  • Multi-Gigabit Wired Backbone
One 2.5 Gbps WAN and one 2.5 Gbps LAN port pair with three Gigabit LAN ports for NAS and desktop aggregation.

  • USB 3.0 Storage Sharing
The port exports attached drives over FTP, Samba or DLNA and accepts NTFS, exFAT, HFS+ and FAT32 partitions.

  • EasyMesh Whole-Home Coverage
Four external antennas with beamforming form an EasyMesh fabric alongside compatible range extenders and routers.

  • HomeShield and VPN Services

    • SPI firewall, access control, IP and MAC binding, application layer gateway
    • OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP and WireGuard server and client modes
    • WPA3 encryption and separate 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz guest SSIDs
  • Tether App Provisioning
Bluetooth-assisted setup through the Tether app configures the WAN type, SSIDs and parental profiles from a phone.

Why Choose the Archer BE230

  • The 2.5G WAN port removes the copper bottleneck on fibre links above 1 Gbps.

  • MLO and 4K-QAM give Wi-Fi 7 laptops and handsets headroom that Wi-Fi 6 hardware cannot match.

  • Access Point mode lets the unit serve as a wireless segment behind an existing firewall or core switch.

  • WireGuard and OpenVPN terminate remote sessions without a separate appliance.

  • EasyMesh compatibility extends coverage with matching nodes as floor space grows.

  1. Brian Kiptoo (verified owner) –

Set this up in our Kilimani apartment and the 2.5G WAN port made an instant difference on our fibre line. Wi-Fi 7 radios hold a clean signal through two walls. Solid unit overall.

  2. Wanjiru Njoroge (verified owner) –

The USB 3.0 port lets me hang a small NAS drive straight off the router, which saved me buying a separate file server for the office. Management through the web interface is straightforward once you find the advanced menu. Wi-Fi 7 speeds only really show up with matching clients, so older laptops still cap out at Wi-Fi 6 rates. Delivery to Nakuru took two days and the box was well packed.

  3. Kevin Otieno (verified owner) –

Dual 2.5G ports are the reason I picked this over the older AX models. LAN aggregation works well with our switch. Good buy for a small office that needs headroom on the wired side.
