Description
OEM Gen 4 Drive for High-Throughput Workloads
The Samsung PM9A1 512GB is an OEM client SSD built on the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface in the M.2 2280 form factor. It reaches 6900 MB/s sequential read and 5000 MB/s sequential write. The drive uses Samsung’s Elpis controller with 512 MB of LPDDR4 cache and 136-layer 3D TLC NAND.
Random performance hits 800,000 IOPS read and 800,000 IOPS write at 4 KB queue depth. Endurance is rated at 300 TBW, and mean time between failures sits at 1.5 million hours. The drive supports NVMe 1.3, self-encrypting drive operation and 256-bit AES encryption for data at rest.
Power draw measures 5 mW in sleep and 35 mW idle, which suits battery-powered notebooks. The single-sided 22 × 80 mm board fits tight M.2 slots in ultrabooks and small-form-factor desktops. Operating temperature spans 0 °C to 70 °C. This pullout unit carries the original firmware and requires no driver on Windows, Linux or macOS.
Key Features
PCIe 4.0 x4 Interface
The Gen 4 link doubles the theoretical bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 and feeds the Elpis controller without a bottleneck.Sequential Performance Envelope
- 6900 MB/s sequential read for large file copies and application launches.
- 5000 MB/s sequential write sustained through the SLC cache.
- 800,000 IOPS random read at 4 KB queue depth.
136-Layer TLC NAND
Samsung 3D TLC stacks 136 layers to raise density without increasing die footprint.300 TBW Endurance
The 512 GB model carries a 300 TBW write rating for sustained workstation use.Hardware Encryption
- 256-bit AES encryption supports self-encrypting drive mode.
- TCG Opal compatibility allows pre-boot authentication on managed fleets.
Low-Power States
Sleep draw of 5 mW and idle draw of 35 mW extend battery runtime in portable systems.

Why Choose the PM9A1
Gen 4 read speeds cut application load times on compatible platforms.
The 300 TBW rating supports daily write-heavy tasks such as virtual machines and log ingestion.
Single-sided layout fits M.2 slots with limited clearance behind the motherboard.
Low idle draw preserves battery runtime on notebooks used for field work.
Hardware encryption meets endpoint compliance baselines without software overhead.
