Description
MPPT charge controller for 48V battery banks
The 2kW 48V charge controller manages power flow from a photovoltaic array into a 48 V battery bank. It uses maximum power point tracking to extract available array energy across changing irradiance and temperature. The unit suits off-grid homes, telecom sites, borehole pumps and backup installations.
Rated solar input power reaches 2,000 W, and maximum output current is 50 A. The MPPT algorithm tracks at roughly 99 percent efficiency, which recovers energy that a PWM controller would waste. A four-stage charge profile covers bulk, absorption, float and equalisation for lead-acid banks, and the profile adjusts for lithium packs.
Maximum open-circuit voltage sits at 200 V, which allows series strings of modern 60-cell and 72-cell modules. The controller disconnects the array at night to prevent reverse current. Protection covers PV reverse polarity, battery reverse connection, overload, overvoltage and lightning surge on the input side.
An LCD panel reports battery voltage, PV voltage, charge current and cumulative energy produced. The display also sets battery type and charge parameters without a laptop. A DSP-based microcontroller runs the tracking loop and the protection logic. Cooling relies on natural convection through the aluminium heatsink, so there is no fan to seize in dusty sites.
Install the controller on a vertical surface with clear airflow above and below the heatsink. Keep battery cable runs short and size conductors for 50 A continuous. Fit a DC breaker between the array and the controller, and a fuse between the controller and the battery. Commission the unit by selecting battery chemistry, then confirm the float voltage against the battery datasheet.
Key Features
MPPT tracking at roughly 99 percent
The controller harvests more array energy than a PWM unit under partial shade and high module temperature.48V battery bank output
- 2,000 W maximum PV input power
- 50 A maximum charge current
- 200 V maximum open-circuit voltage
Four-stage charging profile
Bulk, absorption, float and equalisation stages extend lead-acid service life, and lithium profiles are selectable.LCD parameter display
The panel shows battery voltage, PV voltage, charge current and accumulated energy, and it sets battery type.Comprehensive electrical protection
PV reverse polarity, battery reverse connection, overload, overvoltage and lightning surge protection are built in.Fanless thermal design
An aluminium heatsink dissipates heat by convection, which suits dusty and remote installations.Night-time array isolation
The controller disconnects the PV input after sunset to stop reverse current into the panels.

Why Choose This Controller
MPPT tracking recovers array energy that a PWM controller would dissipate as heat.
A 50 A output stage handles a 2 kW array without paralleling multiple controllers.
Four-stage charging protects battery plates from stratification and sulfation.
Built-in surge and reverse-polarity protection lowers installation risk on remote sites.
The fanless heatsink removes a common failure point in dusty environments.
LCD commissioning removes the need for a laptop or configuration dongle.
