Description
External Housing for M.2 SATA Drives
The Vention KPFH0 converts an internal M.2 NGFF SATA drive into a USB-C external SSD. Vention machines the shell from gray aluminium alloy at 112.4 x 36.8 mm. The tray accepts B-Key and B+M Key modules in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths.
A USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port carries the host link, and the bundle adds a USB-A to USB-C cable for machines without native Type-C. Throughput reaches 6 Gbps, which moves a 1 GB file in roughly two seconds. The bridge controller translates SATA signalling only, so NVMe modules will not enumerate.
Installation needs no tools or screws. The tray slides free, the module seats against the connector, and a retaining clip holds it in place. An auto-sleep timer parks the drive after five minutes of inactivity. A blue LED reports link and activity, and nickel-plated contacts resist oxidation in humid rooms.

Why Choose the KPFH0
Pulling a working M.2 SATA module from a retired notebook turns spare silicon into portable storage instead of e-waste.
The B-Key and B+M Key compatibility covers the common SATA module layouts found in older business laptops.
An aluminium body and nickel-plated contacts hold up better than plastic shells during daily transport.
The included USB-A to USB-C cable avoids a separate purchase for desktops and older docking stations.

Pulled a 512GB NGFF drive from an old laptop and this enclosure turned it into a fast external SSD. The aluminium body stays cool under sustained transfer and the tool-free clip makes swapping drives trivial.

Ordered for my brother who needed to move data between office machines. Arrived sealed, USB-C cable included, worked first time on Windows 11. The gray finish is understated which I prefer.

The USB 3.1 Gen 2 link is real – I measured around 900 MB/s read from a decent NVMe-class NGFF drive. On an older B+M key SATA drive it caps at SATA speeds as expected. The aluminium shell absorbs heat well but the PCB gets warm at sustained writes. No complaints for the bracket.

Solid little enclosure. The tool-free latch holds the drive snug and the USB-C connection is firm.

Bought two for a small IT support outfit in Mombasa. Handling M.2 NGFF drives pulled from client laptops is much easier now that we can test them in a proper enclosure before returning them. The USB-C to USB-C cable and the USB-A adapter both work. One thing to note: this only fits the older NGFF / SATA M.2 drives, not NVMe M-key, so make sure staff know the difference before they force a drive in.

Fits in a laptop sleeve pocket, weight is negligible. Works well for carrying a spare drive to client sites.

I use this as a portable backup drive enclosure for field techs. The aluminium alloy shell dissipates heat nicely during long copy jobs, and the drive does not throttle even after 30 GB of continuous writes. USB 3.1 Gen 2 throughput is genuinely fast on supported hosts. My only complaint is that the retention clip feels light – I would not want to drop the enclosure with a drive inside. Still recommended for the price bracket.

Delivered next day and the box was intact. Set up in under two minutes, plugged into my MacBook over USB-C and the drive mounted straight away. Would order again for staff who keep old NGFF drives in a drawer.
