Description
Compact External Sound Card for Desktop and Notebook Audio
The UGREEN USB audio adapter restores a 3.5mm headset connection on any desktop or laptop through a single USB-A port. A C-Media ALC4030 controller handles digital-to-analogue conversion and microphone capture on one TRRS socket. The unit enumerates as a standard USB Audio Class device, so Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS load drivers without intervention.
The socket accepts a four-pole TRRS plug and carries stereo output alongside a mono microphone return. Sampling reaches 96kHz at 24-bit, with a 97dB signal-to-noise ratio and a 20Hz to 20kHz frequency response. An aluminium alloy shell and braided cable shield the converter from nearby electromagnetic interference. Playback and capture share one clock domain, which keeps lip-sync tight during conference calls.
Bus power arrives from the host port, so the converter needs no external supply. The 50mm body clears adjacent ports on densely populated rear panels and laptop hubs. Compatibility covers Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, plus PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.

I bought two of these for our call centre team in Westlands because the refurbished desktops we received had dead audio ports. Both worked first time on Windows 11. The separate headphone and microphone jacks are a plus—our agents use headsets with split plugs and this handles them without needing an extra splitter. Volume levels are good and the mic is picked up clearly on the other end. Solid little unit for an office environment.

The CM383 uses a proper DAC chip, and you can hear the difference compared to the noisy onboard audio on my work PC. Background hiss is gone and voices on Zoom calls sound clearer. The compact aluminum body doesn’t feel flimsy, and the cable is short enough to avoid desk clutter. Handy for anyone whose desktop lacks a reliable headphone port.

My office desktop has no working audio jack, so this little adapter fixed the problem in seconds. Plugged it into a USB-A port and my headset was recognised immediately, no drivers needed. The sound is clean with no static or background hum, which I was worried about with cheap adapters. I use it daily for calls and music and it hasn’t skipped once.

Works well for the price range. Sound quality is decent and the mic input works on my headset. No issues so far.
Michael Onyango (verified owner) –
Does the job. Audio is clear and the mic works. Cable is a bit short for my setup but otherwise fine.

Simple and effective. Restored audio on an old laptop whose jack was failing. Silver finish looks smart too.
