Desktop WiFi 7 UniFi Gateway

The UniFi Dream Router 7 (UDR-7) is a desktop UniFi gateway with an integrated WiFi 7 access point and a small PoE switch. It is the all-in-one box for a home office or a tiny branch that should not buy a 1RU UDM-Pro-Max plus a separate AP. UniFi OS runs Network on the unit. Port counts, PoE budget, and radio stream counts follow Ubiquiti’s UDR-7 datasheet. It is not Cloud Gateway Max (no integrated Wi-Fi on that SKU) and not a ceiling AP.

Additionally, built-in PoE ports can feed one or two extra APs or a camera. Therefore a very small site can start with one appliance. However, integrated AP coverage is a single cell. Consequently, add ceiling APs when walls or floors need more radios. WAN throughput with IDS/IPS enabled is lower than a Pro Max; size the circuit accordingly.

Additionally, place the unit high and clear of metal cabinets. Therefore the integrated AP can actually radiate. However, do not hide it in a network cupboard if you rely on its Wi-Fi. Consequently, use UDR-7 as the router in the cupboard and add a ceiling AP when coverage fails. Set a strong admin password and automatic backups.
