Description
Four-Port Expansion for Mobile Workstations
The TP-Link UH400 splits one USB 3.0 Type-A host port into four downstream Type-A ports. A VIA VL812 controller handles the traffic, and the hub sustains up to 5 Gbps per link on compatible hardware. The captive cable folds into a recess moulded into the chassis.
The enclosure measures 71 x 71 x 16.6 mm and weighs about 96 g. Four LED indicators report per-port link status, and the ABS shell wraps a reinforced PVC jacket around the cord. No metal connector stays exposed once the cable is stowed, so the body cannot scratch a laptop lid.
The unit draws all its current from the host bus and needs no external adapter. It runs driver-free on Windows 7 through 10, macOS and Linux, and it accepts USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices at their native rates. TP-Link rates the assembly for hot plugging and plug-and-play operation.
Key Features
Four Downstream USB 3.0 Ports
Each port negotiates up to 5 Gbps, which is ten times the USB 2.0 ceiling, and falls back automatically for older peripherals.VIA VL812 Controller
The dedicated hub silicon carries the latest vendor firmware and distributes bandwidth across all four outputs.Foldable Cord and Stow Slot
- Captive Type-A cable folds flat into the body for transport
- Recessed slot holds the connector clear of the chassis surface
- Reinforced PVC jacket resists repeated bending
Bus-Powered Operation
The hub takes 5 V from the host port, so field engineers carry no separate power brick.Driver-Free Deployment
Windows, macOS and Linux enumerate the device without a software install, which suits locked-down corporate images.Per-Port Status LEDs
Four dim indicators show link activity so technicians can trace a dead peripheral without swapping cables.ABS Housing
The rigid shell protects the PCB in a laptop bag and survives drops from desk height.

Why Choose the UH400
Adds four Type-A sockets to ultrabooks and thin clients that ship with only one or two.
Removes the need to unplug a mouse, flash drive and label printer in rotation during a shift.
Keeps a service kit light, since the splitter fits a shirt pocket and needs no PSU.
Supports hot swap, which lets technicians move storage between machines without a reboot.
Covers mixed estates, from legacy Windows 7 terminals to current Linux desktops.

I bought this to free up ports on my work laptop for a presentation clicker, external SSD and phone. The 5 Gbps transfer rate is genuine, copied a 4GB folder in no time. One thing to note is it’s bus-powered, so heavy devices may need their own power, but for normal office gear it’s fine. Good value overall.

Compact and does the job. Cable is a bit short but fine for a desk setup.

Using this at the office to connect a card reader, USB headset and flash disk all at once. No dropouts, no heating issues even after a full day. Build feels solid for something this light. Delivery to Mombasa was on time.

My laptop only has two USB ports and one is taken by the mouse, so this hub has been a lifesaver. I run an external drive, phone cable and keyboard off it at the same time and transfer speeds are proper 5 Gbps stuff. Small enough to slip into the laptop bag.
