Description
Cast Iron Pot Brood Baker for Coals and Ovens
The Megamaster Bread Pot is a 2.8-litre cast iron vessel for baking pot brood over coals or in a domestic oven. The raised lid holds a layer of coals on top, which drives heat down through the dough. A matching lid with a loop handle completes the assembly.
Cast iron walls hold heat and spread it evenly across the base. The body measures 13 cm long, 22 cm wide and 11.8 cm high including the handles. Empty weight is 2.1 kg. A vegetable oil coating protects the surface before first use and limits rust during storage.
The pot works on a braai grid, gas burner, stove plate or oven shelf. A loop on the lid aids lifting with a braai tong or gloved hand. The 500 g loaf capacity suits a standard round or oval sourdough batch. The black finish darkens with use and develops a natural patina.
Season the pot with a thin oil layer before the first bake. Warm it gently, wipe out excess oil and let it cool. Avoid harsh detergents that strip the coating. Dry the cast iron on a warm plate to stop rust. Store with the lid off so air circulates inside.
Bake with the lid on for the first two thirds of the bake, then remove it to colour the crust. Add coals to the raised lid rim when baking outdoors. The pot also roasts meat and bakes flatbreads. Its 2.8-litre cavity holds a 500 g loaf with room for rise.
