Description
Zen 4 Gaming Processor with Stacked Cache
The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is an 8-core, 16-thread desktop CPU built on the Zen 4 architecture. It runs at a 4.2 GHz base clock and boosts to 5.0 GHz. A 96 MB L3 cache includes 3D V-Cache, which reduces memory latency for game engines.
The processor combines TSMC 5nm FinFET compute dies with a 6nm I/O die. It supports dual-channel DDR5 memory up to 128 GB, with JEDEC speeds of DDR5-5200 for single-rank and DDR5-3600 for dual-rank modules. ECC support depends on motherboard validation. PCIe 5.0 provides 28 lanes, leaving 24 usable for add-in cards and storage.
The 120 W TDP part carries an 89°C Tjmax limit. AMD ships no cooler and recommends liquid cooling for sustained loads. The AM5 socket covers A620, B650, B650E, X670, X670E, X870, X870E, B840, and B850 chipsets. Radeon graphics run two cores at 2200 MHz for basic display output.

Quick delivery to Nairobi CBD, well packed in the original AMD box with the cooler bracket intact. Installed it alongside 32GB of DDR5-6000 and the pair works well. Games hit high frame rates and the chip stays stable through long sessions.

Picked this up for a workstation build at the office. Handles virtual machines and heavy Excel models with no complaints. The 120W TDP is manageable on a 240mm AIO.

Dropped into my AM5 board without a BIOS flash. Booted first time and the 8 cores chew through my Blender renders much faster than the old chip. Only thing is you really need a decent cooler, it does run warm under sustained load.

Good chip but you must update your motherboard BIOS before installing. Mine would not post until I flashed the board. Once running, it is excellent.

The 96MB 3D V-Cache makes a real difference in sim racing titles. Frame times are flat and the CPU sits well below 80 degrees on an air cooler.

Runs cool enough for a small form factor build and the AM5 platform gives a clear upgrade path. Solid purchase.
