Description
Vertical-axis generator for low-wind battery charging
The 2kW vertical wind turbine converts wind energy into three-phase AC for a 48 V battery bank through a matched charge controller. It starts turning at roughly 2 m/s and reaches rated output near 12 m/s. The rotor spins on a vertical shaft, so the machine accepts wind from any direction without a yaw motor.
Five glass-fibre blades form the rotor, and the alternator uses a three-phase permanent magnet generator with magnetic suspension. Peak output reaches about 2.2 kW against a 2 kW continuous rating. Surviving wind speed sits near 35 m/s, which covers storm gusts on exposed sites.
Rotor diameter measures about 2.55 m with a swept height near 3 m. The alternator housing carries an IP54 rating for dust and splash protection. Working temperature spans -40 to +80 degrees Celsius. An electromagnetic brake and automatic speed regulation limit overspeed in high wind.
The controller rectifies the three-phase AC output and regulates charging into the 48 V bank. Cable runs from the tower base to the controller should stay short and sized for the rated current. Fit a dump load to absorb surplus energy when the battery reaches full charge. A manual brake switch isolates the rotor for service work.
Site the tower clear of buildings, trees and turbulence from roof edges. Guy the mast or bolt it to a concrete pad according to the tower drawing. Check blade torque and fastener tension after the first week, then at each seasonal service. Vertical-axis machines run at lower tip speed than horizontal turbines, which keeps noise lower in residential surroundings.
Key Features
Vertical-axis rotor
The machine accepts wind from any direction, so it needs no yaw mechanism or tail vane.Three-phase permanent magnet generator
- Magnetic suspension reduces bearing load
- Rated output of 2 kW with a 2.2 kW peak
- 48 V nominal system voltage
Five glass-fibre blades
The blade set gives a rotor diameter near 2.55 m and a swept height around 3 m.Low start-up wind speed
The rotor begins turning at about 2 m/s and reaches rated output near 12 m/s.Electromagnetic braking
An electromagnetic brake and automatic speed regulation limit rotor speed in survival gusts.IP54 alternator housing
The enclosure resists dust and water splash across an operating range of -40 to +80 degrees Celsius.Matched charge controller
The controller rectifies the AC output and regulates charging into the 48 V battery bank.

Why Choose This Turbine
The vertical rotor captures turbulent, direction-shifting wind that a horizontal unit would misread.
A low cut-in speed extends usable generation into light morning and evening breezes.
The three-phase permanent magnet alternator produces power without brushes or slip rings.
Electromagnetic braking protects the rotor through storm-level gusts.
A matched controller simplifies commissioning against an existing 48 V battery bank.
Lower tip speed keeps acoustic output below horizontal turbine levels on residential sites.
