Description
USB Gigabit Network Interface
The USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter adds a wired Gigabit port to laptops, desktops and tablets that lack an RJ45 socket. It negotiates 10/100/1000 Mbps over a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed link at 5 Gbps. The ASIX AX88179 controller integrates the USB PHY and Gigabit Ethernet MAC/PHY on one chip.
The RJ45 port auto-negotiates speed and duplex, and Auto-MDIX removes the need for crossover cables. IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u and 802.3ab compliance covers 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T. The unit draws bus power at roughly 5 V and 200 mA, or about 1 W, so no external supply is needed.
A compact ABS housing measures about 60 x 25 x 15 mm and weighs under 40 g. The fixed USB 3.0 Type-A plug folds into a standard laptop bag. Operating temperature spans 0 °C to 40 °C, and the unit carries CE and RoHS marks. Drivers ship in-box for Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS.
Key Features
Gigabit Link over SuperSpeed USB
The unit carries 10/100/1000 Mbps traffic across a 5 Gbps USB 3.0 link.ASIX AX88179 Controller
A single-chip design integrates the USB 3.2 Gen 1 PHY and Gigabit Ethernet MAC/PHY.Auto-Negotiation and Auto-MDIX
- Speed and duplex negotiate automatically at each link
- Auto-MDIX removes crossover cable requirements
- IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet reduces idle power
Bus-Powered Operation
The unit draws about 1 W from the USB port and needs no AC supply.Driver Support
In-box drivers cover Windows 7 to 11, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS.Compact Housing
The ABS case measures roughly 60 x 25 x 15 mm and weighs under 40 g.Status LEDs
Link and activity indicators confirm 10/100/1000 Mbps negotiation at a glance.Wake-on-LAN and VLAN
The controller supports Wake-on-LAN and IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging where the driver allows.

Why Choose This Adapter
A wired Gigabit link restores throughput on ultrabooks that ship without an RJ45 port.
The ASIX controller is widely supported, so driver installation stays predictable across operating systems.
Bus power removes a separate supply from the desk or travel bag.
Auto-MDIX removes crossover cable confusion at temporary workstations.
Energy Efficient Ethernet cuts idle draw when no traffic crosses the link.
The small ABS body fits behind a laptop without blocking adjacent USB ports.
