Description
USB-C 2.5-Inch Drive Housing
The Ugreen US221 enclosure converts a bare 2.5-inch SATA HDD or SSD into a bus-powered USB-C external drive. It negotiates SATA III at 6 Gbps and USB 3.1 Gen 2 signalling, so the link saturates the drive rather than the interface. A 50 cm USB-C to USB-A cable ships in the box for legacy hosts.
The controller supports UASP, which trims command overhead and lowers CPU load during sustained reads and writes. Drive thickness from 7 mm to 9.5 mm fits the internal bay, and capacity reaches 6 TB. The ABS shell measures 128 × 82 × 14 mm and includes shock-absorbing EVA foam that holds the drive steady.
Installation is tool-free: slide the cover, seat the SATA (7+15) connector and close the case. The unit draws power from the USB bus and needs no external adapter. Auto-standby spins the drive down after 15 minutes of inactivity. Windows, macOS, Linux, PS4, PS5 and Xbox consoles enumerate the device without drivers.
Key Features
SATA III 6 Gbps Bridge
The controller maps 2.5-inch SATA drives to USB at the full 6 Gbps ceiling.USB-C 3.1 Interface
- Reversible USB-C receptacle on the enclosure
- USB 3.1 Gen 2 signalling for host negotiation
- Includes 50 cm USB-C to USB-A cable
UASP Acceleration
USB Attached SCSI Protocol reduces protocol overhead and CPU utilisation compared with BOT.Tool-Free Bay
A sliding cover exposes the SATA connector without screws or a screwdriver.Shock-Absorbing Padding
EVA foam lines the bay and damps vibration during transport.Auto Standby
The bridge drops to standby after 15 minutes idle to limit wear and power draw.Broad Host Support
The housing works with PCs, laptops, routers, smart TVs and game consoles.

Why Choose the US221
The SATA III bridge reaches 6 Gbps, which covers the sustained throughput of most 2.5-inch SSDs.
UASP support lowers CPU load during large file copies and backup jobs.
The ABS shell and EVA foam protect a bare drive during travel between sites.
Bus power removes the need for a separate adapter at the desk or in the field.

Bought this to repurpose an old laptop drive and it worked first time. The USB-C connection is firm, transfer speeds are good, and the black casing looks smart on the desk. Happy with it.

Does the job. Plugged in a 1TB SSD and it was recognised straight away on my Mac.

The build is what sold me — the aluminium-feel shell doesn’t flex and the drive sits snugly inside with no rattling. I’ve been using it daily for backups and it hasn’t missed a beat. The USB-C cable is a decent length too, not the short stubby ones you sometimes get.

I move a lot of video files between office machines, so the 6Gbps rating mattered to me. In practice it’s fast enough that I don’t notice the difference from an external drive. The tool-less fitting is convenient — took me under a minute to slot the drive in. One small thing: the activity light is quite bright in a dark room, but that’s minor.

Arrived well packaged and in good time. I’m using it with an old 500GB drive to store photos and it’s been reliable for the past few weeks. The Type-C cable means I can use it with my phone too, which is a nice bonus.

Works fine for basic storage, but I expected a bit more from the transfer speeds when moving large folders — it’s decent rather than blazing. On the plus side, the connection has been rock solid and it’s small enough to slip into a laptop bag. Good for casual use.

Solid enclosure for the money. It’s plastic on the outside but feels sturdy, and the drive is held firmly. I’d have liked a small pouch included, but for everyday backup duty it does exactly what’s needed.
