Description
Rackmount PoE+ Switching Platform
The TP-Link TL-SG2218P switch provides sixteen 10/100/1000 Mbps PoE+ ports and two Gigabit SFP slots in a 1U metal chassis. Each RJ45 port delivers up to 30 W under 802.3at, with a 150 W total power budget for access points, cameras and IP phones.
A 36 Gbps switching capacity and 26.78 Mpps forwarding rate carry full line-rate traffic across all eighteen ports. The 8K MAC address table and 4.1 Mbit packet buffer absorb multicast bursts, while 9 KB jumbo frames support video and backup flows.
One 100-240 V AC input feeds the internal supply, which peaks at 181.4 W at 110 V with a full 150 W PoE load. The unit runs from 0 to 45 °C in 10-90% RH non-condensing air. Its 440 x 180 x 44 mm case fits standard 19-inch racks.
Key Features
Sixteen PoE+ Access Ports
All sixteen RJ45 ports auto-negotiate speed and MDI/MDIX, detect 802.3af/at powered devices and meter current per port.Dual Gigabit SFP Uplinks
Two 100/1000 Mbps SFP slots accept multimode or singlemode fibre transceivers for runs beyond copper distance limits.Omada SDN Central Management
- Zero-touch provisioning through the Omada Cloud-Based Controller
- Cloud access and app management via hardware, software or cloud controller
- Batch configuration, firmware upgrade and reboot scheduling
Layer 2+ Routing and VLANs
The firmware supports 32 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, 32 static routes, 4K VLAN groups, voice VLAN and LACP link aggregation.Security Enforcement
IP-MAC-port binding, 802.1X, RADIUS, DHCP snooping, ARP inspection and 230 ACL entries restrict access at the edge.QoS and Multicast Control
Eight priority queues with SP and WRR scheduling, rate limiting, storm control and IGMP snooping across 511 multicast groups.

Why Choose TP-Link TL-SG2218P
The 150 W PoE budget powers a full floor of access points or cameras from one rack unit without midspan injectors.
Static routing and 4K VLAN groups let engineers segment guest, voice and device traffic on the same hardware.
SNMP, RMON and CLI access integrate the unit into existing monitoring stacks alongside Omada cloud control.
Dual SFP slots extend distribution links over fibre where copper runs exceed 100 m.

Bought this for our small hotel in Naivasha to power CCTV cameras and APs. The PoE+ handles the cameras without issue, and the switch runs cool. Only downside is the lack of a console port, but for our needs it’s fine.

The 150W power budget is a real spec that matters when you’re running multiple PoE+ devices. We’ve got 8 PTZ cameras and 4 APs on it, and it’s holding up well. The SFP slots are a bonus for future fibre links.

Solid build, rackmount ears included. The 2 SFP slots came in handy for uplinking to our fibre backbone. PoE ports have been stable with no dropouts since installation.

The switch is well-built and the rackmount kit is sturdy. However, the web interface feels a bit dated, and the fans are audible in a quiet office. That said, it’s been reliable for our small call centre.
Hassan Abdalla (verified owner) –
Good switch for the price. The smart management features like VLANs and port mirroring are useful, but the interface takes some getting used to. Delivery to Mombasa was fast.

This replaced an older unmanaged switch in our school computer lab. The ability to prioritise traffic for the exam server has been a game-changer. The 16 PoE ports power our access points and a few cameras. Setup was done by our IT guy, but he said it was painless. The only hiccup was that the default IP is 192.168.0.1, which clashed with our router, but a quick change sorted it.

We deployed this switch in our Westlands office to power 12 IP phones and 4 access points. The 150W PoE budget is more than enough, and the fan is quiet enough for a small comms room. Setup via the web GUI was straightforward, though I’d recommend saving your config often.

Works as expected.
