Description
YW-468 Network Tester
The OEM YW-468 Cable Tester validates the integrity of twisted pair network and telephone cabling. This diagnostic tool detects continuity issues across RJ45, RJ11, and RJ12 interfaces. It identifies common wiring errors including short circuits, open wires, and crossed pairs. The unit consists of a master transmitter and a detachable remote receiver. This configuration allows a single technician to verify installed links between patch panels and wall outlets.
The device features a multi-LED display for pin-to-pin mapping. Each wire pair corresponds to a numbered LED on both units. During operation, the master unit sends a signal through each conductor sequentially. The remote unit mirrors these signals if the path remains intact. A dedicated Ground LED indicates shield continuity for STP cables. Users select between two scanning speeds using the three-position power switch. The Slow setting reduces the sequence speed for precise visual verification of individual pins.
The chassis uses high-impact plastic for durability in field environments. It operates on a standard 9V battery. The compact footprint fits easily into standard tool kits. This tool assists in troubleshooting LAN connectivity and verifying new infrastructure deployments. It handles Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6a terminations. It also supports 2-pair and 3-pair telephone lines. This hardware provides immediate feedback without the complexity of a full certification meter.
Technicians use this device to confirm patch cord reliability before deployment. It identifies faults in long cable runs up to 300 meters. The remote unit slides out of the main housing for remote end testing. This design eliminates the need for two people during basic circuit testing. The master unit performs the loopback analysis. If a wire is broken, the corresponding LED remains unlit. If a short exists, multiple LEDs flash simultaneously. Crossed wires cause the LEDs to light out of sequence on the remote unit. This logic applies to both Ethernet and telephony standards.
The internal circuitry protects against low-voltage interference. However, do not connect this device to live PoE circuits. Active power can damage the internal sensing components. Maintaining a fresh 9V battery ensures signal strength over longer distances. The LED brightness indicates the remaining battery capacity during the test cycle. This tester remains a fundamental tool for network installation and maintenance.
