16× 10G SFP+ Aggregation Switch

The MikroTik CRS317 RM model (CRS317-1G-16S+RM) is a 1RU aggregation switch with sixteen 10G SFP+ cages and one Gigabit RJ45 management port. Optics and DACs are sold separately. Dual-boot RouterOS and SwOS let the chassis run as a fibre leaf, a small core, or a hypervisor top-of-rack. There is no dense 1G copper row on this SKU. Use it where every downlink should be 10G fibre or DAC.

Additionally, sixteen 10G ports concentrate many CRS access switches or servers. Therefore this unit is a step above four-SFP+ access chassis. However, switching capacity and full-duplex oversubscription still matter at 10G. Consequently, read MikroTik’s CRS317 throughput notes if you fill all cages with 10G traffic. The 1G copper port is for management OOB, not a 10G access drop.

Additionally, label every cage with the far-end hostname. Therefore fibre audits stay short. However, mixing unknown SFP+ vendors can stall links. Consequently, qualify modules. Do not confuse this SKU with CRS328 copper PoE leaves. Keep spare DACs for adjacent rack hops. Use LC/LC SMF for longer IDF runs and DAC only inside the same rack. After commissioning, export the RouterOS backup to a file share and note the serial on the rack elevation so RMA is not delayed.
