Description
Server CPU for Dual-Socket LGA1366 Platforms
The Intel Xeon E5620 is a four-core server processor for dual-socket LGA1366 mainboards. It runs at 2.40 GHz base and reaches 2.66 GHz under Turbo Boost 1.0. Hyper-Threading exposes eight threads, and 12 MB of SmartCache sits shared across the cores.
Two QPI ports carry 5.86 GT/s links, so paired chips exchange data without crossing the chipset. A three-channel DDR3 controller accepts 800 and 1066 MT/s registered modules with ECC, addressing up to 288 GB per socket pair. Peak memory bandwidth reaches 25.6 GB/s.
Thermal design power is 80 W against a 77.6 °C case limit, which suits 1U and 2U chassis with standard active heatsinks. Virtualisation covers VT-x, VT-d and EPT, and AES-NI runs encryption in hardware. The 32 nm Westmere-EP die drops into the FCLGA1366 socket with a 42.5 x 45 mm package.
Key Features
Four Cores, Eight Threads
Hyper-Threading doubles the thread count for virtual machines and concurrent database sessions.Turbo Boost 1.0
Clock rises to 2.66 GHz when thermal headroom allows, lifting single-thread throughput.Dual QPI Interconnect
- Two 5.86 GT/s links between paired sockets
- Direct cache coherency without a front-side bus
- Supports two-socket configurations per board
Three-Channel ECC Memory
Registered DDR3 at 800 or 1066 MT/s scales to 288 GB with error correction enabled.Hardware Virtualisation
VT-x, VT-d and extended page tables pass devices through to guests with low overhead.AES-NI Acceleration
The instruction set offloads cipher operations from software to the core pipeline.

Why Choose This Server Chip
Two-socket boards gain eight physical cores and sixteen threads from a matched pair.
Registered ECC memory support keeps large database instances stable under load.
The 80 W envelope allows dense rack builds without upgrading cooling hardware.
VT-d passthrough lets hypervisors hand NICs and HBAs to individual guests.
AES-NI cuts the CPU cost of encrypted storage and TLS termination.
Existing LGA1366 infrastructure accepts the chip without a platform change.
