Description
Compact AMD-Powered Small Form Factor Desktop
The HP EliteDesk 705 G5 is a small form factor desktop built around an AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G processor with Radeon Vega 11 graphics. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4-2666 memory and a 500 GB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive. The chassis measures 9.5 x 27 x 29.6 cm and weighs 4.53 kg.
Four DIMM slots accept up to 128 GB of DDR4-2666 memory for staged upgrades. The AMD PRO 560 chipset exposes two M.2 storage slots, one M.2 WLAN slot, a PCIe x16 slot and a PCIe x1 slot. A 180 W internal power supply with active PFC runs the platform without an external adapter brick. The 3.5-inch HDD bay converts to two 2.5-inch drives, and a slim ODD bay accepts an optical drive.
Eleven USB ports cover peripherals: one USB-C Gen 2 on the front, four USB 3.1 Gen 1 on the front, four SuperSpeed USB 5Gbps and two USB 2.0 on the rear. Dual DisplayPort 1.2 outputs drive two monitors natively. Realtek Gigabit Ethernet handles wired networking, and an optional serial, HDMI 2.0 or VGA module can be added. The tool-less side panel exposes memory, storage and PCIe slots for service.

The Ryzen 5 PRO handles our point-of-sale software and a browser with no lag at all. Small footprint means it tucks neatly under the counter.

Arrived in Nairobi well packaged and on time. The SFF chassis fits on a shelf in our back office and the front USB ports are easy to reach. Boots reasonably fast given the mechanical drive.

We bought four for the sales floor and they handle multitasking better than the older Intel units they replaced. The Ryzen 5 PRO with 8GB is plenty for CRM and email. Only issue is the 500GB HDD is slow to wake up from sleep, so we’re planning SSD upgrades later.

Compact and quiet. The integrated Radeon graphics are a nice bonus over standard office machines, handles light photo editing without complaint.
Samuel Otieno (verified owner) –
Good machine overall but it only has USB ports on the front and rear, no USB-C. For an office in 2024 that feels dated. Otherwise the Ryzen chip runs cool and the SFF design saves desk space. Solid budget option if you can live without newer ports.

I set one of these up for our reception desk where it runs the visitor log, Teams and a few browser tabs all day. The Ryzen 5 PRO with its four cores and eight threads keeps everything responsive, and the SFF chassis stays cool even in our poorly ventilated reception area. The integrated Radeon graphics are a step up from standard office machines for occasional video work. The 500GB drive is the obvious upgrade candidate, but as shipped it does the job. Good value for a compact business desktop.
