Horizontal-Axis Generator for Off-Grid DC Bus Charging

The 2000W 48V wind turbine is an M-type horizontal-axis generator that feeds a 48 V DC bus directly. Three 1.08 m nylon-fibre blades turn a 2.3 m rotor at a 2.5 m/s cut-in speed. A three-phase permanent-magnet alternator converts rotation without brushes or slip rings.

Rated output reaches 2000 W at 12 m/s wind speed, with a 2500 W peak. The generator housing carries an IP54 rating for dust and splash protection. Electromagnetic braking provides overspeed control, and an automatic yaw rudder aligns the rotor with changing wind direction.

The turbine weighs 45 kg and mounts on a flange seat that accepts a standard steel tower. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 80°C, and the unit survives wind speeds up to 45 m/s. The nylon-fibre blades resist fatigue under cyclic loading. A separate charge controller is required to regulate the 48 V output and manage dump loads.
