Light black sits between photo black and the color channels in the UltraChrome K3 ink set. It fills the tonal gap where pure photo black would appear too heavy and color inks would introduce unwanted hue. Fine-art printers depend on this 11.4 ml unit for smooth grey ramps in black-and-white and duotone work.
The R2880 routes light black through a dedicated nozzle group on the MicroPiezo head. Droplet overlap with photo black produces continuous tone from paper white to deep shadow. When the secondary black channel runs low, mid-tones show posterization and neutral greys pick up a color cast.
